Bill may have been wounded by gun shots while serving as a corrections officer, possibly in Walpole, and succumbed not long after. It is some time since I heard this and I cannot recall the source - and hope that I have it wrong.
Contrary to Dave Renyolds previous comment Bill survived his injuries and live on for many years and passed away on Decembter 13th 2023. His obituary is found on the website of the Ross Funeral Home in Wrentham MA.

Bill and myself worked at M.C.I. Norfolk as correction officers He was held hostage and then shoot in the head.
I will never forget that night as long as I live. He died shortly after.
